The Educational Equity Virtual Leadership Series was conceptualized in 2020 in response to the global pandemic. At that time, the Educational Equity Network’s professional learnings were redefined to be held exclusively in a virtual room rather than in-person.

This unique series was designed to increase educators' capacity for co-creating belonging in all learning spaces. The Educational Equity Leadership Institutes support inclusive learning for authentic self-reflection and engagement while exploring the application of "difficult conversations" about race, equity, inclusion, and systemic oppression. Participants are challenged to understand the dynamics of race and racism in education and other forms of exclusion/oppression and transform their educational practices.

The Institutes provide learning opportunities around educational equity and justice from multiple perspectives. Institutes are delivered through a virtual platform, with opportunities for discussion and resources. The learning is tailored to increase capacity for racial equity leadership among Wisconsin educators and centering belonging for all students.

The Educational Equity Network is inviting all Wisconsin educators to continue and deepen their equity work and join our 2023-2024 Educational Equity Leadership Series. A cadre of local and national authors, professors, practitioners, and community leaders have been invited to share their wisdom with Wisconsin educators as part of this series. All presenters are knowledgeable in navigating our current racialized landscape from a place of strength and resilience.

Participation in the Institutes is entirely fee-free. A scholarship, funded through the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA), has been applied to the administrative and instructional fees.

Registered attendees gain access to session recordings and resources, regardless of their attendance at the live Institute on January 25, 2024. Recordings are typically accessible on our online learning platform, within 1-3 business days after the event.

Pre-registration, with a valid email address, is required. The email address provided will be used to send confirmation notices, reminders, and will be used for an invitation to Sutra to allow for participation in further learning activities and sharing of resources.

Wisconsin has faced significant challenges in achieving racial equity, consistently ranking among the states with the highest disparities for Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities. A recent publication by COWS: Race in the Heartland sheds light on the "extreme racial disparities" prevalent in Wisconsin.
